Today I did not visit any wineries but I did have a reservation for a "Sparkling Wine Night" at The Vines of Mendoza. As usual I arrived early and spent half an hour just talking to Yael about this week's wine adventures.
When more guests started to arrive I let Yael do her job and went back into the bar where I grabbed up a glass of sparkling wine and sat down. As I would soon find out, I was about to taste 3 sparkling wines. The first, which I was already drinking was from Finca La Linda. It consisted of half Chardonnay and half Semillón. It had a light soft taste and was half dry, a real nice wine. After a few glasses I moved on to the second wine from Bodega Familia Di Tommaso. This wine was made from 100% Chardonnay.
The wine was a bit sweeter and had much more "kick" to it, which I really enjoyed. After a few glasses of this wine, a waitress finally poured the last wine of the night from Carmelo Patti. His wine was made up of half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir. This wine was the driest of all three and also the least sweet. It was just ok. After only a couple glasses of Sr. Patti's wine, I returned to the Extra Brut from Bodega Familia Di Tommaso. After all the breads and cheeses were finished, crackers were finally served to
all the guests. These crackers certainly did not help me soak up any alcohol. Familia Di Tommaso's wine was so good I could not stop drinking it. I was in such a good mood I made friends with all the waitresses and waiters. I of course caught Yael a couple times and continued telling my stories with that familiar slur when you're too drunk to talk. All in all, I enjoyed myself tremendously. I am always happy to learn new things, especially about wine. This is the first time in my life that I drank and enjoyed sparkling wine, and I'm sure it will not be the last.
